Dr. Emily F. Howell
Dr. Emily F. Howell was born and raised in Cornelia, Georgia where she was honored as her high school class Valedictorian. She went on to graduate summa cum laude with highest honors from the University of Georgia with a business degree in Management Information Systems, while she also completed her requirements for dental school. In an attempt to obtain scholarships for several years of dental school, Dr. Howell sought after and won the title of Miss Georgia and went on to compete in the Miss America Pageant, the largest scholarship program for women in the world. This opportunity awarded Dr. Howell over $25,000 in scholarships to help with four years of dental school and two and a half years of orthodontic residency at the Medical College of Georgia.
As Miss Georgia, she took one year off from dental school to travel throughout the state, promoting her platform, "Connecting Character to Careers." Today, she continues to strive to be a positive role model to her patients and speaks at many local youth and business gatherings. Dr. Howell started Howell Orthodontics in 2007 and opened a new larger facility at 85 Memorial Drive, Jefferson in 2016. Dr. Howell and her husband, Jon, are proud parents of their daughters, Georgie and Lucy! They attend The Jefferson Church where Dr. Howell sings on the worship team. Dr. Howell was a speaker for the Wired For Success meetings for orthodontic residents in 2008 and 2009 in Florida and California.
Dr. Howell is a member of multiple state and national dental and orthodontic associations, is a Legacy Mentor, a Partner in Education with all Jefferson City schools and many other area schools, a 17-year member of the Jefferson Rotary Club where she has been honored with the 2015 Lee Arrendale Award for Service through Vocational Excellence. Dr. Howell was a member of Leadership Jackson class of 2009, Leadership Georgia class of 2011, and was a program chair for the Leadership Georgia class of 2013. Dr. Howell was named 2011 Business Woman of the Year by Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce. Her practice Howell Orthodontics was named in 2014, 2015, and 2016 Bulldog Top 100 (fastest growing businesses in US owned by a UGA graduate). Dr. Howell was elected as one of University of Georgia's "40 Under 40" Class of 2015, was honored with the 2016 "Small Business of the Year" by Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce, was selected by Benco Dental’s Incisal Edge magazine as one of 2018 “Top 40 Under 40” best dentists in America, and was named as the 2021 recipient of the Habersham Central High School Lifetime Achievement Award.

Dr. Scott S. De Rossi, most recently the Founding Dean of the Workman School of Dental Medicine at High Point University and head of HPU Oral Health Network of clinical practices, is passionate about driving growth and innovation in healthcare strategy and medical-dental integration. He is the Senior Vice President of Innovation and Strategy at Serendequity Partners and Chief Strategy Officer of Nexus Dental Systems.
He received his D.M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1995 and completed his post-doctoral training in Oral Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in 1997. He achieved Diplomate status from the American Board of Oral Medicine in 1999. He served as Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to Augusta University in 2007 where he was Professor of Oral Medicine, Director of the Clinical Center for Oral Medicine, and Chairman of Oral Health and Diagnostic Sciences at the Augusta University Dental College of Georgia where he also held joint faculty appointments in the Departments of Dermatology and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his MBA from the Hull College of Business at Augusta University in 2016. He served as the 8th Dean of the University of North Carolina Adams School of Dentistry while serving as faculty in the division of Oral & Craniofacial Health and the Department of Otolaryngology in the UNC School of Medicine.
Dr. De Rossi is a co-author of the Burket’s Oral Medicine textbook, Editor of the July 2013 edition of Dental Clinics of North America on Orofacial Pain and has lectured and published over 100 scientific articles, textbook chapters, and monographs on all aspects of Oral Medicine including TMD and orofacial pain, oral oncology, dental sleep medicine, medically complex patients, salivary gland disorders and oral mucosal diseases.
A creative, collaborative, and innovative leader in dental education, research and practice, Dr. De Rossi is the principal founder of DentAlliance – a global partnership of four international dental schools that launched in 2020, the 2011 recipient of the International Association of Dental Research Innovation in Oral Care Award, a 2012-13 Fellow in the ADEA Leadership Institute, recipient of numerous awards and honors for teaching and service, he is the Past President of the American Board of Dental Specialties, and serves as a Commissioner to the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
His superpower is connecting people, ideas, and resources to advance health. He lives in Durham, NC and is happily married to Dr. Katharine N. Ciarrocca. They have two beautiful biological daughters – Sofia and Evangelia, and a chosen son – John.
