ATLANTA—As doctors branch out and offer their patients more services, the ability to easily add technology to support new workflows is vital. That’s why Carestream Dental has validated Formlabs’ Form 3B printer for use with the latest version of CS Model+ v5 to give more practices the ability to design and print clear aligners in house.

With 87 percent of adults indicating that clear aligners would be the most acceptable form of orthodontic treatment,* the popularity of aligner therapy continues to rise. Marketing by direct-to-consumer brands has made clear aligner appealing to adult patients and new digital technology and partnerships, like between Carestream Dental and Formlabs, only makes it easier and more cost-effective for patients to seek clinician-guided treatment.

“We’ve always designed our systems with the mindset that doctors would want to ‘plug and play’ with other technology to enhance their workflow,” Ed Shellard, D.M.D., chief dental officer, Carestream Dental, said. “The clear aligner workflow is the perfect example of how accessible systems open doors to new treatment offerings. By going a step further and validating the Form 3B, users have that added layer of confidence that their systems, whether from Carestream Dental or Formlabs, are going to work seamlessly.”

The latest version of Carestream Dental’s CS Model+ v5 is the intuitive software that uses artificial intelligence to guide doctors through the aligner design process. It all starts with a scan from the CS 3600 or CS 3700 intraoral scanner and then CS Model+ v5 automatically ranks the case by degree of difficulty. From there, the clinician maintains complete control of the case, going from design to fabrication all in house.

The file is then sent to the Form 3B, an advanced desktop 3D printer optimized for dental workflows. Its precise, reliable ecosystem takes the guesswork out of fabrication so better outcomes are just a few clicks away.

“Carestream Dental has been a leader in digital dentistry for many years,” Sam Wainwright, dental product manager, Formlabs, said. “We are looking forward to collaborating with them in our ongoing mission to make digital technology accessible to all."
