ORMCO CORPORATION INTRODUCES LYTHOS™ DIGITAL IMPRESSION SYSTEM

Leading Orthodontic Manufacturer Unveils Intraoral Imager Technology with Precision Detail and Accuracy for Streamlined Procedures and Greater Return-on-Investment

ORANGE, Calif. (May 6, 2013)—Ormco Corporation, a leading manufacturer and provider of advanced orthodontic technology and services, today announced its LythosTM Digital Impressions System harnessing  the power of digital scanning to overcome the inherent challenges associated with traditional impressions. Lythos—which delivers dual-arch capture in an average of seven minutes—is designed to integrate easily into any practice workflow, allowing the professional team to transition quickly to digital impressions while keeping chair time to a minimum. For increased patient and staff comfort, the lightweight and compact Lythos wand is ergonomic for the operator and allows for easy, comfortable access to the posterior.

With both a unique open platform format and rebate program, the Lythos scanner is a sound financial investment able to positively impact practice efficiency and return on investment. Lythos’ open system allows data to be easily integrated with orthodontic labs and appliance manufacturers to produce a variety of custom appliances and/or study models—including compatibility with Insignia™ Advanced Smile Design™, Clearguide™ Express and AOA lab. The enhanced usability of the open format guarantees that practices can complete more from a single digital portal and reduce practice inefficiencies. Additionally, when Lythos scan data is used for Ormco and/or AOA products, practices earn rebates toward the payment of the impression system. With the unique rebate program, Ormco research indicates that Lythos pays for itself in the number of PVS impressions a typical office takes in just one year.

“The Lythos system is the result of years of Ormco dedicated research and development and beta testing to create the most innovative orthodontic digital impression scanner on the market,” said Vicente Reynal, president of Ormco. “The open platform and no click fees offered with Lythos allow orthodontists to create retainers, custom fixed appliances, aligners and digital study models both quickly and easily. Likewise, by bundling Lythos with Ormco’s Insignia Advanced Smile Design, clinicians have access to a single turnkey solution for delivering a wide variety of highly aesthetic and fast treatments that are demanded by today’s adult and teen patients. ”

The small, portable device aims to reduce the need for taking traditional PVS and alginate impressions for all indications in the orthodontic practice. Rather than the traditional point-and-click technology that is limited to single image capture, Lythos’ AFI Technology captures data in real time—versus post-process stitching—acquiring high-definition detail at all angulations of the tooth surface scanned. With this technology an entire high-resolution, dual-arch scan can be completed in roughly the same time as a PVS impression. Additional standout product features are highlighted below:

·         Simple, portable design—unit weighs less than 30 pounds for easy transport from operatory to operatory

·         Open platform—Lythos creates stereolithography (STL) files of patient data at no additional charge

·         DigiCast eModels—easily accessible online portal for digital study models eliminates the costly need for physical storage

·         Touch screen monitor—easy-to-clean touch screen allows for fast rotation of models on screen and when entering patient data

·         Wireless Internet—allows for patient data to be uploaded to the cloud where it can then be accessed from any computer in the office

·         Increased patient comfort—smaller wand tip and ability to capture data in a wet environment (no messy powders or coating), resulting in less patient discomfort and chair time

“At an affordable price, Lythos captures accurate tooth data in equal or less time than it takes to complete a traditional dental impression and with fewer steps,” said Dr. Sam Levine, orthodontist. “The result of using Lythos is an enhanced patient experience with greater treatment comfort, reduced chair time and more exact data to create the best possible treatment plan.”

For convenience, the Lythos system offers hassle-free installation and an intuitive platform for simple integration into practice treatment.  Both the easy training and quick installation allow for minimal disruption of practice schedules and patient visits. Additionally, the device is compatible with Apple™ products for practices operating with other Apple tools.
